Lucky you! You've found one of the coolest events in the city. Who wouldn't want to land in the home kitchen of Sara Jenkin's? She's only one of NYC's best Italian chefs (check out her cookbook Olives and Oranges). She's got two beloved restaurants Porsena and Porchetta in the East Village. Her home is lovely and her cooking is grandma peasant Italian that you pretty much can't get anywhere in the big food world that is NYC. On top of that, Sara and friends are FUN--always a raucous, passionate discussion over wine and pasta around her. She even pulls out the olive oil that her family makes in Tuscany (not for sale) for all to taste. Enjoy!

The food was excellent and just as advertised to be--an Italian Sunday lunch. There was great conversation and everyone was very gracious and open. This was my first EatWith meal but it will not be my last.

Eat with Sara

My name is Sara Jenkins, I grew up in Italy and other parts of the Mediterranean, eating my way through its cultures, learning how to cook, when farm to table was still the way food production worked. I have been involved with traditional slow-cooked Italian fast food for as long as I can remember. It's really the only way I know how to cook. I am in love with the clean flavors of Mediterranean food. I started my kitchen with Todd English at Figs in Boston, then went on to work as a chef in Florence and in the Tuscan countryside, as well as on the Caribbean island of Nevis, before returning to the United States. In NYC, I became the chef at I Coppi, earning two stars within three months. In September of 2008, I opened Porchetta, a storefront in the East Village focusing on the Italian roasted pork, typically sold as street food. Then in November of 2010, I opened Porsena, a kitchen inspired from my Tuscan and Roman childhood with a pasta-centric menu. I am also the author of Oranges and Olives a, cookbook to inspire the other home cooks of the world. I am proud to be part of the EatWith August Chef Series, please come and EatWith me :)
