Meet Ellie
Geographically, I was born on a cross road of three continents: Asia, Africa and Europe, and thats keep influencing my cooking the most, even though I got to taste foods in some other remote parts of the world. :-) 'Eat With' is a wonderful idea to meet new people. I believe that as the collective consciousness is evolving and distances become shorten it is also fascinating to explore some more through food. Is there something more uniting than food? Everybody has the ability of building a bridge that gets to other's hearts. We transfer love through food. Flavors and memories of a place will always stay with us. I have been doing it for years and cooked since I was 10y/o. I also worked in two of the 90's best restaurants in Tel Aviv, and learnt a lot just by working as a waitress and a hostess. I always found myself sneaking into the kitchen, learning something new. I am also a former first class flight attendant, both, in an international airline and on privet jets. Traveling the world and living few years in several different countries exposed me to cultures and food that many times one can not find in a restaurant. I felt really blessed! I cook many things, however, it is a great pride for me to be able to cook a fujian- Jewish Yemenite food with a western touch, as it is part of my heritage.

Ellie has such nice, place settings for everyone. When we arrived we had some nice dumpling-like balls with mushroom, cumin, and Israeli salsa as well as some warm rolls of flaky bread. YUM. After our snacks we sat down at the table to enjoy our wine and chat to find little individually named bags of tea spices to bring home with us. We chatted a while and Ellie brought a bowl of chicken soup with tumeric, cumin, a bit of garlic and some other spices. The chicken was cooked low and slow such that it fell apart as soon as the fork hit it. The broth was a nice way to warm up from the cold. We passed around two types of flatbread with green spices that gave a scent almost like an italian focaccia. Earthy, savory, and well rounded. There was a hot sauce and a milder version or dipping. It took a lot of self control not to overdo it on the hot one. The main course was rice with okra and chicken. Being from the south the okra reminded me a bit of home. You can always tell when someone doesn't really know how to cook okra because it comes out slimy. That was not the case here. They effectively bound the red sauce which was nice to lap up with the protein. Would definitely recommend.

Ellie was a lovely, charming host. Her apartment was cozy, and all the guest were able to chat and get to know each other throughout the evening. She is very knowledgeable about the food she cooked, and the culture for which it represented. Truly a wonderful experience! I look forward to attending another dinner of hers, as well as other EatWith dinners.
