My name is Stephen Lee, and I am a chef and urban farmer. My playground is a plate of naturally sourced, seasonal food, good for the soul and the earth. If I had it my way, the world would be a giant vegetable garden free for the picking. I was a contestant on Masterchef Season 6.

I learned to cook through the vagaries of my youth, throwing pizzas in the Northwest and making pasta in Italy. Eventually, food took me back to the simplicity of the earth, where it all starts, and I was sucked in by the connection between land and plate. 

Intent on cooking food that nurtures rather than depletes our world, I began to study where food comes from by growing it. I have been a beekeeper, a farmer, a promoter of home vegetable gardens, a seed keeper, and a supporter of farmer’s markets, where I buy my food and cultivate relationships with farmers. 

I know about the integrity of seed and soil and about the work that goes into producing our food, and my goal is to practice a cuisine that reflects that. 

An experienced guest chef and events chef, I have tested my skills in the hottest of kitchens, judged by the toughest of judges—as a semi-finalist in Michelin-star chef Gordon Ramsay’s TV show “MasterChef.” The hair-raising challenge tempered and validated my work, skills, ingenuity, and vision. I have been praised for cooking food that is creative and soulful.

My culinary adventures continue with the goal of spreading happiness through food that teaches and sustains, that preserves and gives back, and that is thoughtful and delicious. I want to inspire people to choose food with care, and to care about their food. 

A perfectionist, a stickler for quality, and a rebel with a punk rock edge, I am a private chef, a caterer, an event speaker, a sustainability teacher, and an honest practitioner who loves providing people with delicious food.
