4-course Cretan dinner including both family and local recipes

Local red wine, white wine, and local beers are included

All ingredients are local and fresh either from the host's own garden or the nearby farmers market

Raki a traditional Cretan aperitif with small bites of local graviera cheese and olives

Aperitif

Depending on the season either Kalitsounia or Dakos, and a salad. 

Kalitsounia, a Cretan pie filled with cheese and aromatic herbs 

Dakos, crunchy Cretan rusks with fresh tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, misithra (a creamy cretan cheese) and black olives

Salad, with fresh ingredients depending on the season

Starter

Depending on the season either Boreki or Papoutsakia and Arni, or Kokkinsto

Boureki, grandpas’ old family recipe baked in the oven with potatoes, pumpkin, misithra cheese (creamy Cretan cheese) tomatoes and fresh herbs 

Papoutsakia, stuffed eggplants with fresh tomatoes, cheese, fresh herbs and spices made in the oven

Arni, grandmas’ slow cooked lamb in the oven with potatoes herbs and oregano

Kokkinsto, slow cooked beef with small onions, tomatoes, red wine and chestnuts depending on the seasons


Main Course 

May change throughout the season, Fresh Fruits and either Cretan Cheesecake, or Almond Cake 

Cretan Cheesecake, citrusy cooling and creamy with a fruity homemade strawberry jam topping 

Almond Cake,  delicious, based entirely on almonds (no flour) with dark rich chocolate flavor

Hi I am Britta. A German by birth, I have lived in Crete for over 25 years with my Cretan husband and our two daughters. I am a very keen amateur artist and enjoy exhibiting my work locally but I am equally passionate about food, and cooking  delicious meals.
