Join the abracadabra supper club series hosted by Priyanka for a magical exploration of one of the most iconic regions and cuisines in the hinterland of India - Mystical Chettinad! Spirited and spicy this cuisine is one to indulge in. 

There are two things that you need to keep warm this icy winter: many layers and aromatic and warming Chettinad food! If you, like your host, are still not feeling like spring is in the air just yet, then come join the table for an evening of the hottest magic in town.

You’ll enter Layla's Bakery to the scent of Jasmine in the air - the scene of so many wonderful evenings before this - and as always be served by friends of the house! A warm drink to help you shake off the cold weather blues - and the lovely folks at Layla bar have a range of delicious libations to keep you hydrated and happy! You'll settle in for the vibes and magic - old friends and new, laughter and conversations over nibbles.

Before you know it, you're transported to mystic Chettinad - lush greenery, Jasmine all around, and banana leaf plates. Chettinad is a region in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu - home to a community called the Chettiars. They were businessmen and traders along the spice route, and their journeys around Asia and Europe influenced their lives, homes, art, and of course, their iconic centuries-old cuisine. 
 
It's spicy, aromatic, delicious, and served steaming hot! Fold up that coat you came with - you may not need it on the way back after this!

Welcome to mystic Chettinad

A Chettinad favourite – Fluffy rice and lentil based pan-fried dumplings, golden brown and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Served with classic regional chutneys.

Beautiful aubergines, in a rustic, hot and spicy gravy, with pearl-like translucent and sweet baby onions, roasted coconut, and a secret mix of spices straight from Chettinad!

(Veg. option) Ennai Kathrika Kolambu

Soft juicy morsels of chicken, a cashew and coconut infused tomato-based gravy, baby pearl onions, heady spices and the intoxicating fragrance of Kalpaasi - or stone flower -  the ingredient that makes this authentically Chettinad. Fiery, flavourful, Fabulous and Iconic.  

(Non-veg option) Chicken Chettinad

Crunchy and soft ghee parathas, a fresh and tangy chopped salad, two incredible home-made pickles, and poppadums.

Excite the six senses

Black rice and jaggery - both local to Chettinad - come together with coconut for this sensuously dark and sticky dessert. Black magic on a plate!

I’m an incredibly passionate person, finding inspiration and energy in everything around me – art, music, people, places, and of course, food. The food I make (I'd like to call it elevated homestyle food!) is inspired by a range of people and experiences – from the always freshly-made, humble food I grew up with at home with my parents, to the food I’ve eaten and discovered during my travels around the world (often in the endless quest of soul-satisfying food), to the people I’ve sat around dining tables with sharing food and life stories (and made life-long friends with!), and even the work experience I’ve had in kitchens in the UK and France, including at the iconic Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire and a crêpe stall at the oldest market in Paris at the Marché des Enfants Rouges. 

While I’ve hosted fun soirees and supper clubs at my Notting Hill home over the last 5 years, this is the first in a series of supper clubs I’ll be hosting in 2022 in collaboration with restaurants/cafes across Notting Hill and beyond.
