My menu consists of three courses, a starter, main course and dessert. Because I lived in Belgium for many years I enjoy cooking traditional Flemish dishes and would love to share them with you. One of my specialties is STOEMP as the main course: a medley of vegetables, potatoes and juicy meat in an onion sauce. My other favourites are rich stews of rabbit, bacon and apricots and a pumpkin and blue cheese quiche.
As a starter offer a light vegetable soup or a fresh arugula salad with beet and sunflower seeds. For dessert, a vanilla semolina pudding with hot berry juice or foam balls in an egg custard or a chocolate mousse. In my cooking I like to add a modern twist to the old recipes and use ingredients from the local Farmers Market and organic shops in Amsterdam. I use fresh seasonal products and enjoy experimenting with the ‘forgotten vegetables'.
I cook according to the season: A light meal when it is hot and a something of a heartier nature when it gets chilly. I serve wine or beer if you prefer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Occasionally I make a variation and use recipes that I learned during my travels. For example, Indian and Indonesian. When booking you can indicate your preference or you can choose to let me surprise you. I am a dutch poet and writer, so if you are interested, I can also offer you a reading of my favorite poems between courses. I would really love my guests bringing their own favorites, for example, their favorite poem, a story or a text, written by him or herself. Telling each other travelstories ( I certainly have some exciting to tell) is a splendid way to end a dinerparty, don't you think?
