Discover Filipino cuisine at our Spanish Filipino Tasting. Filipino cuisine has never been as popular as Vietnamese or Thai, but as passionate food lovers and cooks, we are excited to be able to serve our favorite dishes to you here in Philly! For the Filipinos out there, we don’t dare say this is going to be like your mom’s cooking but we’re hoping to capture the essence of it.
In both Spain and the Philippines, dinner is a social event. As soon as you arrive, you’ll be presented with a choice of a glass of a Filipino Beer (San Miguel anyone?) or our homemade red Sangria. Think of dinner as a party with strangers you have yet to meet!
Dinner will be served in 4 courses. The first will be a Spanish tapas style plate with Spanish favorites such as Tortilla Española (thinly sliced potato and egg omlet), Mejillones Casino (mussels baked with cheese and garlic), and Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp and garlic in oil, served on a small piece of bread).
To cleanse your palate in preparation for the entrée, the second course will be Fresh Lumpia – a Filipino favorite consisting of pork and vegetables wrapped in a soft crepe like wrapper made with flour and eggs, doused with a sweet sauce infused with peanuts.
The entrée will be Pork Belly Adobo, a much loved Filipino dish. There are many variations in the Philippines as to how this is cooked. We like to prepare it perfectly roasted and marinated with just the right amount of garlic, soy sauce and vinegar and served fusion-style over a celery root puree and a fresh micro green salad to balance the juiciness and flavor of the pork belly.
Finally, you’ll finish off the evening with a Banana Fritter Tassie (think Pecan Tassies, but with banana fritters!) topped with Vanilla ice cream, and a Flan Medallion with caramel sauce.
Throughout dinner, you’ll get to enjoy some more of the Red Sangria and/or Filipino beer. We hope to see you soon!!
