Comedor, simply translated from Spanish, means dining room. But to me, it means so much more than that. It’s a beloved term that embodies the feeling you get when you gather with loved ones, laugh and share a meal together. The warmth, the hospitability and the simplicity of it all is what brings people together. My great-grandmother, Mercedes, a humble and heartfelt woman, owned a string of comedores in El Salvador. She worked tirelessly to share her soul and her food with the locals going to work and those coming back after a long day. Her ingredients were always locally sourced. In her comedores, families, singles and drifters would gather, socialize and break bread. My grandmother, Edelmira, carried on the tradition and now it is with great honor to take the torch and pay homage to my roots and to my abuelas. Please be a guest in my home; let’s break bread, Comedor style!
