Tasty, healthy and local! Buzz words of today’s cuisine. Good to know that was always common practice in our little country. Easy to understand why: quality and taste of our local produce has always been outstanding. Our mothers learned how to prepare it in the most natural way with great meals as a result we learned from them how to do it.
As a former hostess and cook in our own restaurant we are now looking forward to receive you at our cosy home and surprise you with a perfect four-course classic Dutch family menu. First we will enjoy a get together drink (a so called ‘Borrel’, a small glass of dutch gin) and some truly Dutch appetizers, followed by a home made bouillon, soup or salad with seasonal porducts only. After that we serve the main course, local meat or North Sea fish including a glass of red or white wine or beer. And as finale we will bring a typical Dutch dessert to the table. Coffee or tea will be served at the end of the meal.
About potatoes and vegetables, meat and fish The most famous painting of Van Gogh is ‘De Aardappeleters’ (The Potatoe Eaters). Throughout history potatoes have been an essential element in the dutch menu. They were (almost) always abundant and cheap, they provide important nutrients and vitamins and they combine very well with vegetables. But as you might know, we also grow great indigenous vegetables such as kale, green and red cabbage, sprouts, endives, spinach, chicory, carrot, celery, parsnip, beet root, sweet and sour apples, and many more. And we do not have to tell you about the dutch cattle... famous producers of high quality milk, butter, cheese and meat. Our fish is great too and is exported all over the world, and one of the best local fish stores is very close to our home!
So come on in and let the good times roll at Martine's table. Enjoy your meal, share stories, listen to music, or even play some yourself! Admire the canal view and watch the boats pass by in one of the oldest parts of the historical city center, on the edge of the famous Red Light District. Martines Table is located less than 5 min. walking distance from Amsterdam Central Station.
Remember: there are no strangers, just friends you haven’t yet met. No better option than meeting them at our table. We're looking forward to it!
