Every Summer during middle school, my parents would send me to Tuscany where I would work the day shift in an Italian pop-up restaurant. For dinner at my aunt's home, we would make Italian classics mixed with special Tuscan dishes, from Panzanella (bread salad) to Ranocchie (pan-fried frog legs). In my home back in Croatia, Italian food was "the law," (as we would call something that rules). I would happily bring new experiences and recipes back home from Italy. Nowadays here in New York City, scents trigger memories of music, soccer, middle-school romance, wine for every meal, and gelato, and I can no longer distinguish what has been real experience, what came from movies, and what has been added by my imagination. Italian food has been the best culinary experience of my life. So, come and share with me this Italian dream.
