Bread and Pizza Baking Workshop in the Catalan Countryside
English & Irish
Fresh bread, pizza, focaccia
Address provided after booking
Enjoy a fun and friendly day of baking, eating and relaxing in the beautiful Catalan countryside surrounded by olive groves and mountain scenery, just 20 mins down the coast from Barcelona. Now with the added bonus of a swimming pool (in the warmer months) so don't forget to bring a towel!
The focus of the weekend is a crash course in baking a variety of different breads. The course will be fun, casual and informative and we'll learn to make 3 types of bread - classic loaves, focaccia and Italian pizzas which we'll bake in a roaring hot woodfired oven!
There are different ways to get to the mountainside venue - buses from Barcelona or nearby Gavà will take you to the village of Begues where I will pick you up and take you to the house. If you want to come by car, it's a 25 minute drive from Barcelona, please message for specific directions!
After settling in with your welcome drink and explore of the beautiful setting, the first lesson on making the dough will begin. We'd recommend arriving hungry, as straight away we'll crack on with some stone-baked pizzas! Learn how to shape the dough and then choose from a range of toppings - cheeses, cold meats and Italian tomato sauce to create your masterpiece! The proper lunch will come later in the afternoon so for now we'll call the pizzas... brunch! The afternoon will continue with a relaxed and informative lesson in bread baking outside on the terrace. Pick fresh herbs (basil, rosemary, thyme, chives etc.) from the garden to create your delicious breads! As the afternoon progresses there will be plenty of time to relax and unwind in this peaceful setting. Have a wander round the surrounding hills, enjoy a glass of wine in the garden, or take a dip in the pool overlooking the beautiful mountains and the sea below! All this kneading and shaping (and swimming) will have built up an apetite for a late lunch which will be served on the terrace, enjoyed with fresh focaccia from the oven and a cold class of wine or two. Wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks will be served with both lunch and dinner, but if you would like the alcoholic drinks to flow all night please feel free to bring some of your own with you.
We'll aim to finish around 6.30pm in time for those catching the bus back down the mountain.
Those that want to stay the night can do so and will find a bed prepared for them in one of the wood cabins - please send us a message to check prices and availability.
This weekend is for you to relax and enjoy yourself, a break from the hustle of city life and a time to get back to nature and have a laugh with new friends.
For those staying the night, Sunday 'brunch' will be served around 10/11am and will be your choice of fresh eggs, bacon, bread and breakfast pizzas from your own fair hands, cereal and oranges from our trees with tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. After breakfast there will be a few hours for you to take in the serenity before you head home!
Please let us know if you'd like to stay the night so we can arrange a room for you. The price is a little extra for this of course!
We have held workshops in every moth of the year, but being very much an alfresco affair, the only time we can't do it is if it's raining. In which case we will have to rearrange for another day, which might be the following day! We're happy to acommodate groups, private events and children. If you have any other questions about the workshop, please don't hesitate to get in contact! We look forward to welcoming you soon!
