I live in a lovely apartment in Paris, not far from Bastille and close to the Père-Lachaise cemetery. I’ve registered on this site for the pleasure of hosting a simple French dinner. I love classic music and Jazz.... which we might play during the dinner or the apéritif! I love preparing the meal in advance, so I won’t spend all my time in the kitchen when my guests are present. My friends might be there, or not........ Hopefully, you look forward to a good dinner at my place. I’ve travelled Scandinavia, Germany, where some of my friends live, and Canada. My daughter-in-law is American and she LOVES my food!!!

What to expect at Martine's place
Our dinner and evening with Martine was beyond expectations. It is the most rememberable birthday dinner I have ever experienced. It was surely, a highlight of our trip. Finding Martine’s home was easy, just a short walk from the Métro. We felt comfortable walking in her neighborhood at night, both to and from dinner. The food was tasty and there was more than enough to go around. We really enjoyed the company and conversations as well. It felt like we were with good friends. Although it was not necessary, being able to communicate in French made my experience even more enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by dessert. I am from New Orleans and usually have a king cake for my birthday. In New Orleans, king cake is traditionally served only during Carnival, the time between Twelfth Night (Jan. 6th) and the day before Ash Wednesday (Mardi Gras Day, the date varies). Different parts of the world have different traditions. In Paris, one eats “galette des rois". Before dessert, I was sharing with Martine that I would love to try a galette des rois while in Paris. That is when I learned it was on the menu for dessert. Not only did I enjoy the taste more than I could have imagined, Martine and her friend, Didier, shared the entire Parisian tradition that went along with having a galette des rois. Overall, we had a great gastronomic and cultural experience. I recommend dining with her. I will definitely visit Martine again the next time I’m in Pars. Merci bien, Martine!
