What to expect at Chen & Alon's place
A large group of Australians (28 of us) enjoyed a Passover seder at the home of Chen and Alon two weeks ago. When we decided to celebrate our daughter's batmitzvah in Israel over the Passover festival, I knew I didn't want the seder to be located in a hotel function room. I wanted the event to be authentic to Israel and to be a memorable one. A cousin suggested I contact EatWith and they were responsive and helpful. My criteria were that the location needed to be within walking distance of our hotel in Jerusalem and be able to accommodate a large group. Chen and Alon, with an apartment in Machane Yehuda and a 15 min walk from our location were the perfect answer. A number of emails went back and forth clarifying our/the host's needs. Chen was responsive and easy to deal with. Towards the end we had a phone call to ensure all details were covered. You can imagine my surprise when I learnt (fortuitously) that Chen and Alon and well known cooks in Israel having reached the finals of the Israeli version of the BBC series "Bake Off". She is a well-regarded chef and runs cooking classes. Needless to say the food was delicious and the seder itself, a combination of their Sephardi and our Ashkenazi traditions. It was a lovely and memorable evening.
