I’m a storyteller. Trying different mediums, such as documentary filmmaking, I soon discovered that I wanted to tell stories through food. I started my journey in Karachi, Pakistan, trawling through famous street food stalls to learn how to cook my dad’s favourite snack, Bun Kababs. Using my research I opened a Bun Kebab stall at London’s markets. Little by little my home business turned into Empress Market, a multisite hospitality brand.
Now I cater events, host supper clubs, restaurant residencies, cooking demonstrations and pop-ups with my all-female crew. My food is rooted in a heritage of Pakistani and Indian family recipes, a love for global street food and a nod to modern city living. I enjoy playing with different techniques and food traditions to make my desi flavours sing, and make every meal an occasion.
