I grew up in the hospitality business... quite literally! As a baby, my crib used to be placed on top of the ice-cream counter at my Dad's restaurant. At 7, I was brewing coffee perched on top of a chair so that I could reach the espresso machine. At 11, the restaurant's customers would say that my sangria was pretty legendary, while my Dad would always get angry that I try a sip before serving it. At 13 I started baking Portuguese bread and pastries at my family's bakery. Now, I have my own bakery so that I can share with the world the best Portuguese sweets. Did you know that our custard tarts have won multiple awards?! I think it's time to spread the love and share the recipe with you!

This event was absolutely fantastic. I puchased 6 "seats" for a private birthday treat for my daughter, who loves all things Portuguese. She and her friends had a riot (alcohol may have been involved!) on their virtual pastel lesson, and Joao was the perfect host, charming, patient, funny, informative.

We all had a fantastic time with Joao. He was bright, fun and engaging no matter what level we were. Its a little challenging making pastry but we all enjoyed giving it a go and our bakes didn't turn out too badly considering most of the group were beginners. Joao gave some top tips for trying out on our own next time. The class worked well online while in a lockdown situation. I used it as a way to distantly celebrate my birthday with friends and do something different Everyone in the group was pleased and highly recommends this class
