I am not a fancy chef or a classically trained baker. Actually, I’ve spent the better part of two decades working in the government, non- profit & academic sectors. I worked with older adults, am a licensed social worker & served in government in my native Ohio where I focused on health policy. I now am on faculty at American University, am a visiting fellow at London School of Economics and , because I have nothing to do, started my own culinary lifestyle brand, Humble Pie Home + Kitchen. I am just a girl who grew up in the Midwest learning how to cook with my Italian-American grandma. I carried my early passion for cooking and baking into adulthood. When I was in government, I found refuge in my kitchen baking pies as a way to relax. I would often share my new creations with friends & colleagues. I even entered my pies into some fairs and festivals along the way. I believe food is the one thing we all have in common and that can bring people together as well as serve as a powerful storytelling medium.

Had a super fun morning with Capri! She is very knowledgeable and engaging, and she had lots of great tips for baking at home. And my family loved the yummy results :) Thanks, Capri!

Wonderful event! I love finding activities over Zoom to bring people together. My mom & I took this cooking class together (she's in AZ, I'm in CA) and we loved Capri's cooking instruction. It was lovely to chat with the group about vintage cookbooks and other quarantine cooking ideas. Will definitely try another class soon!
