What to expect at Cocina Consuelo's place
Trying to find the right words to post a review of my experience at Cocina Consuelo is almost impossible, everything is delicious and Karina and Lalo are 2 spectacular hosts. My friends and I shared the Sardines with Salsa Macha, beautiful mix of savory and spice . We also had the Tuétano/ Bone Marrow, perfectly cooked with plenty meat to enjoy in tacos. I had 1 Chipotle Cheese taco, and Tuna Jalapeño taco, can't find anything like this in NYC, The main dish was a Chile en Nogada, anything good I write about this dish would be a understatement. Stuffed and everything couldn't leave without trying the desserts, 3 leches cake and Chocoflan are a must even if you don't have a sweet tooth.
New York is very much alive and, like in the old good times, you have to take the A train to Harlem, Hamilton Height, Sugar Hill, and meet Karina, the Chef, and Lalo the classical guitar player. The young and charming couple has created Cocina Consuelo to face the economic challenges of the Covid19 era. The result is what one was dreaming of: the warmth of conviviality together with the most delicious Mexican food. Being vegetarian I was treated with " Tinga Tacos " made of hibiscus, onion and chipotle pepper, followed by " Vegan Fajitas " made of sorrel, peppers, mushroom, chipotle pepper stuffed with handmade cheese. I finished this feast with a " Tres lèche cake with coconuts flakes. I had to ask Karina to write me down those details to put words to all the flavors flowing through my palate. It has been a Sunday experience I look forward to repeat, repeat and repeat! Trust me. I won't tell you about Consuelo, it is too much a personal and lovely story only Karina and Lalo can tell... giving you just a hint: la madeleine de Proust....
