What to expect at Veasna's place
Hands down one of the best meals I have ever had in Dublin. Set aside any misplaced apprehension you might have around possibly feeling uncomfortable or awkward on a night like this. Niall and Veasna couldn’t have made us feel more welcomed into their home. The skill, finesse & presentation that went into each dish was of the highest standard and quality. Every element made us want to hightail it straight to the airport after our meal, whimsically book a flight to Cambodia and head to an eatery as nowhere in Dublin can even come close to this authentic food experience. Niall and Veasna know exactly where they should be and when. Veasna in the kitchen prepping, cooking and plating up, occasionally popping in to introduce new dishes. Niall refilling glasses, chatting, providing background and cultural context for the food but also stepping out to let you enjoy your own company and the experience as a whole. Attention to detail on the night went above and beyond. There was an impressively full vase of roses on the authentically dressed table, Cambodian music playing throughout and, upon departure, we were handed small Cambodian gifts and tokens to remember our night including handwritten recipes and illustrations of the plates we had tried and samples of the Cambodian pepper used in the dishes. We left beaming from their generosity and genuine hospitality. Our bellies full and happy. In short, this is cuisine to transport you straight to Asia. A completely unique, exciting and eye opening experience. Such a treat. This turned a lovely day for us (our 3rd anniversary) into something truly memorable. Thank you both.
We had a marvelous time a couple of nights ago at Niall and Veasna's. My boyfriend and I were in Ireland for his birthday, and I wanted to surprise him with a unique experience; we both love trying cuisines new to us, and I reckoned that Cambodian food in Dublin would be a nice break from all the Western meals we'd undoubtedly have. Veasna admittedly didn't have many reviews, but they were all so complimentary and effusive, so I thought I'd take a chance. I wasn't disappointed in the least! My boyfriend is allergic to peanuts, and I'm Middle Eastern and don't eat pork, so we had a few dietary restrictions. I knew how difficult that could make a Southeast Asian meal, but Veasna and Niall gave us a memorable, authentic experience regardless of our limitations. After drinks and an appetizer in their beautiful two-story house tucked away in a quaint alley, they ushered us to the CUTEST little courtyard outside of kitchen with a table set for two. The dishes were exquisite and ***wonderful***. The portions were generous with tender proteins and a great balance of flavors with spiciness tailored just to our liking. We were positively overwhelmed by everything in front of us -- the beef, the fish, the chicken, and the soup: a delicious and creamy yellow curry with fish and spinach in a hand-carved coconut for each of us. "The best soup I've ever had," my boyfriend said, describing it as very "craveable." He was speechless for most of the meal, and by the time dessert rolled out, we were so full but pushed through! Thank you so much, Niall and Veasna, for your hospitality. The quantity, quality, freshness, and savory nature of the meal made it unforgettable and was the highlight of my boyfriend's birthday in Dublin -- it was a surprise he never could have imagined. Highly recommend, without reservation!
Such a fantastic and unique experience. Being from Ireland but living in Cambodia I am well acquainted with Cambodian fare. It was a real treat to discover Veasna is expertly bringing the tastes of his homeland to the Irish palate. We were four people, two of whom had never experienced anything Cambodian, It was such a pleasure to introduce my Irish friends to the incredible culinary talents of Veasna and also the diverse flavours of Cambodian cuisine. Wonderful charming hosts (both Veasna and Niall). Do yourself a favour and book this exclusive experience, you will not be disappointed.
